Welcome to Uchiko
Uchiko is a town located in the southernmost region of Ehime prefecture, about 42 kilometers southwest of Matsuyama. From the Edo period (1603–1867) to the end of the Meiji period (1868–1912), Uchiko was an important center for the production of paper and wax.
At the Kamihaga Residence you can learn more about this historical industry. Wax production marked a period of prosperity for the city and today, after 100 years, homes of that period are still visible along the Yokaichi Old Town street.
Another interesting tourist attraction in the city is the Uchiko-za kabuki theater, equipped with a rotating stage with hidden entrances and trap doors.
