Today we would love to introduce a beautiful off the beaten path destination, on the Mount Shigi in Rural Nara, 437 meters above the sea level, is located at the southern end of the Ikoma Mountains lying in the northwest of Nara Prefecture.
How to go
From Kyoto it take 45 minutes via Yamato-Saidaiji to Ikoma Station by Kintetsu Kyoto line. And 25 minutes from Ikoma station to Shigisan-shita Station by Kintetsu Ikoma line and at last have to take Nara Kotsu Bus from Shigisan-shita Station to Shigisan and it takes 10 minutes bus ride.
If you come from Osaka it take 30 minutes from Tennoji Station to Sango Station by Yamato-ji line and other 10 minutes to Shigisan by Nara Kotsu Bus.
What to do
A huge sculpture of a tiger on the approach way attracts the attention of the visitors, it is really beautiful! After a short walk you can find the first Shukubo called Senju-in, Senju-in is running for already about 120 years ago.
Just a bit up you can find the main hall (Hondo) of the Chogosonshi-ji Temple, a wonderful temple with an amazing view of the city! Inside this temple you can experience kaidan meguri in the main hall, where visitors can walk through a pitch-dark corridor, and feeling their way along the wall.
