Yudanaka Onsen (Nagano Prefecture)
Welcome to Yudanaka Onsen
Yudanaka Onsen is a historic hot springs resort area with a modern atmosphere. It is located in the northern part of Nagano Prefecture, is surrounded by mountains, and has public baths. The famous haiku poet Issa Kobayashi liked to visit Yudanaka Onsen late in his life. Ancient buildings and temples stand among newer bars and restaurants. Famous attractions in the area include the Jigokudani Monkey Park and a large Buddhist statue. Beyond Yudanaka Onsen is Japan’s largest ski resort, Shiga Kogen, which hosted the 1998 Nagano Winter Olympics.
This area is very good located to go to Jigokudani Yaen Koen (Snow monkeys park, 20 minutes by bus and walk), Ryuoo Ski Resort (30 minutes by free shuttle bus) or Obuse, Suzaka city (40 minutes by train).
