Takayama City
Takayama is a city in the mountainous Hida region of Gifu Prefecture. The city has a very Japanese old atmosphere of Edo Period and many buildings are still preserved.
The Sannomachi Street located in the old town has many old homes, shops, coffee houses and sake breweries, some of which have been in business for centuries. The local shops in the area are typically open during day time, but close early evening.
The early close of the shop business hours open you a wide selection where to stay over the night, for example you can select a traditional Ryokan near the city center like Sumiyoshi Ryokan or Murayama Ryokan, or select a Traditional Minshuku like Minshuku Kuwataniya in this case you can still stay in the city and have a walk in the evening after dinner or eat dinner in one of the local Izakaya of the city.
However if you looking for a completely different experience you can select one of our Minshuku in the Rural area, please take a look this link: https://www.travelarrangejapan.com/minshuku-takayama/ each of this Minshuku are tested from our staff and we guarantee the high level of those accommodation.
With only 20 minutes away from Takayama you can experience in one of this local Minshuku, eat local food such a Hida Beef or Hoba Miso and many unique experience such a Soba making lesson! We really suggest stay overnight a bit away from the city as in the evening almost the shop are close and there is not much to do, but if you stay in a rural area you can have a connection with local people and experience Takayama life.
We also suggest to take a look the official Takayama Minshuku page where we were select as their travel agency for take care of the reservation by English, Italian, Spanish and other languages.
